Joseph "Culture" Hill They
are from the friends, fans and extended family of Joseph Hill culture contributed to my love for reggae music in the early days. roots & culture thanks! jah bless snoop the hague, the netherlands - Monday, August 21, 2006 at 13:22:33 (EDT) So sad to hear that another legend of our music has gone. Joseph Hill's music was a great inspiration, and your lyrics will live on in our hearts. You have brought joy and happiness, and you have brought upliftment every time we had the privilege to see you. You have made the world a better place. May your soul rest in peace. Roots Fire System <pbrettner@gmx.de> Dortmund, Germany - Monday, August 21, 2006 at 13:21:04 (EDT) BLESSED LOVe to Joseph Hill, who now dwells in the place of no pains. Culture always brought an upfull / positive vibe to the place. He already had spent Too Long In Slavery here on this little earth. Never a time that International Herb was playin, was the herb not burning, and not once did I hear a downbeat remark about the music they played. We will miss Joseph Hill and hope that his family and friends can keep the works forwarding in fine style, as they have been for 30+ years now. live Culture shows @ www.angelfire.com/rant/JAHtapelist I am willing to forward some of his live show material to those ears wanting just one last cry from MR. Hill BLESSED LOVE , HAIL I JAH Ras Tafari JAY SUTTON <jah_guide_i@yahoo.com> USA - Monday, August 21, 2006 at 13:18:18 (EDT) Much respect to a man who knew his music and his roots. Armando <mando775@yahoo.com> Fort Worth, TX USA - Monday, August 21, 2006 at 13:17:05 (EDT) Culture is one of the most conscious in addition to humourous entertainer that I have had the priviledge to meet/associated with on life's journey. A fond memory of Culture is once he was on stage and he was sucking his finger while performing. This memory always brings a smile to my face. Culture, my brother, you will be Missed! It is so sad that it takes the 'passing' of a Pioneer before his works can be broadcast. Blessings Always, King Worrell King <kingofkingspro@hotmail.com> USA - Monday, August 21, 2006 at 13:17:00 (EDT) Now that u're sitting by our father's side; keep on guiding us. RIP. Kolteah Levi <aaly@free.fr> Paris, FRANCE - Monday, August 21, 2006 at 13:16:39 (EDT) It has come to me as a big shock that one of the 'oak trees' of super spiritual reggae has fallen, and this has not been any other person than the Zion humble man Joseph Hill. To me he's going home as he simply made a brief stop-over in this wicked world to give Jah people some food for our souls. Joseph, eventhough you are gone now, we will remember u always for your words shall continue to inspire us. May Jah take u and keep u as we all share the grief together with your family. As Jah children our hearts are not pondered as we all know where u belong to so far as Zion is our place of abored. May yr soul rest peacefully. Attawora Panyin Gregory <Pungu-talania-bu@gh.com> Takoradi, Gh Ghana (GH) - Monday, August 21, 2006 at 13:14:44 (EDT) Free at last, blowing in the natural mystic flying free in Zion+ I know he got a good slice+LOVE+ mac <puravidademac@hotmail.com> Bolinas, CA USA - Monday, August 21, 2006 at 13:13:20 (EDT) on be hafe of my family i say sorry to hills family i say to the wife kids that is not easy lose a great and wonderfull man like this who has past way let them cosul and pary his sul to go to heaven and god to giude them miatta kamara <kmiatta@yahoo.com> freetown, sierra leone - Monday, August 21, 2006 at 13:12:52 (EDT) Much respect to a man who knew his music and his roots. Robert bent <eyeglassman39@yahoo.com> Dallas, TX USA - Monday, August 21, 2006 at 12:31:37 (EDT) Joe Hill is the fire. The Torch that burns. The timbre of his voice reaches deep places in my soul like no other artist. Reggae music has the keen ability to touch the innocent and guilty at the same time. Joe Hill brings it with the genuine honesty that scares the hell out of Babylon. I was fortunate to share the stage with him on many occasion. I watched and took notes as he took the band through sound check, prayers and showtime. To Joesph it was work and not play, but a serious time to teach us all what he knew and felt. I'm a better person because I learned from watching and listening to Joe Hill. To his family, close friends and bandmates, I send my deepest condolences and prayers. Give Thanks to Joseph Hill-RASTAFARI!!!!! Mark Moses Alvarado <alvarado.mark@juno.com> El Paso, Texas USA - Monday, August 21, 2006 at 12:30:55 (EDT) I saw Culture many times. I and many fans will keep his music alive and spread it and his message Itinually. JAH Ras-Tafari Robert Niya <cyberbob@iname.com> Stockholm, Sweden - Joseph Hill was a great reggae ambassador that the oppressed "black" people had ever seen. He sang about Africans and for Africans who suffered from Slavery, Emperialism to Colonialism. He preached the painful truth to the world of oppressors. He will not be with us physically, but his words will live with us and for us, Africans. Great hits like "Dungee" are a painful sting to the oppressors. Hamisi Malipula <son_of_jackal@yahoo.com> Dar es Salaam, East Africa Tanzania - My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Hill. He'll be missed but his music and message to the world shall live on forever. Jah bless. T-Richard <creative214@hotmail.com> Dallas, TX USA - One Bright Morning When My Work Is Over I Will Fly Away Home!!! Mind's Eye Dub <mindseye@maltanet.net> M'Scala, Malta - Joseph Hill had a distinctive voice that was well suited in expressing lyrics of the sufferer. Several years back, I was painting our nursery prior to the birth of my first daughter. I can't tell you how many times I listened to the "Harder than the Rest" album while painting. And yet, I never grew weary of that album. I can still play it and have the same sense of elation that it brought with the first listen. I am deeply saddened by his passing and wish my best to his family. He certainly left a large volume of music behind to provide solace to all. Rest in peace. Will USA - My deepest sympathy goes out to Culture's family. He did a magnificent performance at reggae sunsplash. I am with the media and my company was very priveleged to have the last interview with him. He is a true brother of society, he has left us but his music will never die. Jah bless. sydonnie <sydonnie_scarlett8@hotmail.com> jamaica - My life has been enriched listening and dancing to Joseph Hill's music. His voice lives on in my imagination. I'll miss not seeing him perform on stage, but on the larger stage, he lives on. karen karen <shedances@gmail.com> las vegas, nm USA - The first song I can remember from Culture was "I Don't Want To Be Left Out of Zion Gates" I still love that song, and was quite ashamed when I realized that it was not in my collection... I will correct that today. My condolences to Mr. Hill's family and his band members. His music will live on, and I hope that he will get the honor and respect deemed him from his fans through out the world. Jamaica and the music world has lost a very important member. Thank you for all the inspiration you gave me for life. You will never be forgotten. Ben Jammin L Fresko Reece <Jammincardiff@aol.com> Cardiff City, Wales - Culture's releases for Virgin are among my top 5 favourite reggae of all time, the song writing and harmonies are so sophisticated compared to most other reggae, and Mr Hill had such a beautiful, soulful, smoky, emotional voice. After the seventies (the so called golden era of roots ) Joseph Hill continued to deliver quality song writing and positive vibes. Listening to Culture, you really get the feeling they meant what they sung, and didn't just use some clichéd phrases that rhymed. His music is an inspiration and brings big big positive vibrations, and I don't say this about every music. It is a shame Joseph Hill died so young, but his music will last on!! Dries Van Cann dries <dries_vancann@yahoo.co.uk> Belgium - Hard to believe. Malawi loves reggae very much and Joseph Culture Hill is a household name. Malawians' love for the man can be said to be 'immesearable'. Definately, Malawi should grieve. Bro Chim <chim44@hotmail.com> Blantyre, Malawi - King of Rasta, we will miss you !!! You gave us a great time at your last Reggea Sunday Festival in Eindhoven on the 12th of August 2006. We thank you for your great music, we will treasure your message. R.I.P Culture, we will always remember you. Joanne & Maikel alias Ras Biggs Joanne & Maikel Klas <jalomuk@wanadoo.nl> Hoofddorp, The Netherlands - I am still numb and I can't express the pain I felt when I heard the tragic news on Saturday morning... Joseph Hill... Our reggae father is gone! A more authentic Rasta Priest has never trod this earth...so talented, wise, kind and prophetic! I was blessed to have seen him perform twice this year alone (at WXPN and SNWMF) and had been fortunate enough to have seen Culture at least 15 times since 2000 alone! When performing this summer at the Seirra Nevada World Music Festival in June this summer Mr. Hill took a break while on stage and explained to the crowd: "MUSIC is no longer a job for me....it is an INTERNATIONAL DUTY!" Jah Jah guide I coming in and protect I coming out Mr. Hill! We're all gonna miss you, you shall never be replaced! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * "You know people should respect one another. To be used, abused, refused and our hearts trampled by fear, and living in doubt, thinking we are living on top of the world. No we shouldn't live that way. We have to seek happiness, love, mutual respect, joy and justice of God around us, and peace would find its rightful place." ~ Joseph Hill Daniel Poruban <fari99@supernet.com> Philadelphia, PA USA - It always was that whenever Joseph Hill performed I would be moved to stand at his feet. Joseph stood for our high ideal of Truth. Like another Joseph he was clothed with a coat of many colours; a dreamer and interpreter of the times; the phenomenal was his field of action. How excellent are his works in all the lands! Rest well trustworthy servant your light will not be dimmed. Love and blessings of peace to the family. Elaine Wint <elaine_wint@yahoo.com> Kingston, Jamaica - Rest In Peace Sir, Even though u have passed on your music never will! PEACE Timlin Tha Prophet <timlinstein@aol.com> Uk - Thank you so much Joseph for all the wonderful music you blessed us with. Your words and works will continue to inspire the masses! We ll miss u Joseph. Let Jah light shine upon u as you trod through the road to mount Zion. Till we meet again, tatai! Collins Ackah <ackahdesign@yahoo.com> Takoradi, wr Ghana - My sincere and deepest sympathies to Ms.P and family, the band, and the many friends of Joseph Hill. Although he has trodded on through the gates of Holy Mt Zion, his spirit will live on forever in his music. Give thanks and praise! Matthew 5:4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." Let the joy of the Lord be your strength. Irie Denise <Irieprincess1@aol.com> Bridgeport, Ct USA - Thank you very Much Mr. Hill, May Jah rest your soul in peace Allan <ashooashoo@msn.com> minneapolis, MN USA - Culture was the first reggae band I witnessed live, and they made a massive -- and instant -- impact on how I heard music, looked at and felt with the world, and even lived my daily life. I always felt like I was in the presence of genuine greatness whenever I celebrated Culture's music live, in the company of countless others, in the years since that first experience. My most heartfelt sympathies go out to Joseph's family and friends. A prophet may die, but he will continue to inspire through his words, his music, and the memories we carry with us. R. Squibbs USA - He was my hero. My favourite living artist up until this past weekend. Though I was born in 1977,(The year Culture released Two Sevens Clash) I've been a Culture fan for over 10 years. I had the pleasure of meeting him in 2004 when he came to Anguilla to perform for the Moonsplash Music Festival. I also got the great opportunity to chat with him during that time, and was not surprised to know how HUMBLE this man was. Culture's music has inspired me, taught me and entertained me. The world is a better place because of Joseph Hill. I just want to say THANKS for all that he has done for me and Reggae music. Rest In Peace. Blessed Love! - Faah Farrah Banks <ital80@hotmail.com> Anguilla - Joseph Hill,May Jah shine his light eternal on you. From your adopted country Sierra leone. We will miss you but never forget you. We will try to live by your messages! ERNEST WEBBER <guildexports@hotmail.com> USA - Joseph Hill,May Jah shine his light eternal on you. From your adopted country Sierra leone. We will miss you but never forget you. We will try to live by your messages! ERNEST WEBBER <guildexports@hotmail.com> USA - Joseph Hill,May Jah shine his light eternal on you. From your adopted country Sierra leone. We will miss you but never forget you. We will try to live by your messages! ERNEST WEBBER <guildexport@hotmail.com> USA - RIP Renki USA - My deepest condolence to the family of Mr Joseph Hill. How saddened I am to hear of the passing of a great reggae ambassodor. Joseph Hill, Culture was an inspiration to many. As an elder he blessed us with his music and gave those of us who trod the road the strength to carry on. Lyrics contained in Natty never get Weary, Love shines brighter than the morning sun, Wings of a Dove and the rest of his catalogue are anthems to all. We must cherish the elder ambassadors who work tirelessly to bring their music to us, because when their time comes all we will have are memories and what wonderful memories they are because we can say we were there and were blessed. My final thoughts to his family whilst they mourn their loss is the Nyabinghi chant, There is no night in Zion there is no night there, HalleluJAH there is No night there, for RASTAFARI is my light and we need no candle light, HalleluJAH there is no night there. Jah Bless, Jah Guide, Hail Rastafari. Sister Julie, Brothers Reuben and Issacher <julie.dublin@thpct.nhs.uk> London, England - My deepest condolence to the family of Mr Joseph Hill. How saddened I am to hear of the passing of a great reggae ambassodor. Joseph Hill, Culture was an inspiration to many.
